How to import kids’ ride-on cars from China
A practical sourcing checklist for importers comparing ride-on toy suppliers, specifications, compliance, packing, Incoterms and freight.
Updated July 2026 · For importers, distributors and retail buyersStart with your market, not a product photo
A strong sourcing brief begins with the destination market, retail channel, target age, expected retail price and required standards. These points determine the suitable voltage, motor configuration, functions, packaging and documentation. Send them before asking for a final quotation so the supplier can recommend models that fit your customers rather than only the lowest unit price.
Compare the complete specification
Two ride-on cars with a similar appearance can have very different commercial value. Ask for the exact model specification and keep it attached to the quotation and order documents.
- Battery voltage and capacity
- Motor voltage, size and quantity
- Remote-control and slow-start functions
- Wheel and seat material
- Product and carton dimensions
- Gross and net weight
- Available colours and optional upgrades
Verify compliance for the exact destination
Toy requirements differ by destination and product type. Tell the supplier where the goods will be sold and request current documents for the exact model and configuration. Do not assume that a certificate shown for one product automatically covers another model, battery system or market.
Calculate packing and freight before selecting the range
For large plastic toys, carton volume often matters as much as the factory price. Compare carton dimensions, cubic volume and estimated 40HQ loading. A slightly more expensive product with more efficient packing can produce a better landed cost and healthier retail margin.
Put the final specification in writing
Before production, confirm model numbers, quantities, colour mix, optional components, carton marks, manual language, trade term, lead time and inspection expectations. The final commercial documents should match the agreed specification and packing data.
Frequently asked questions
What information should I send for a ride-on car quotation?
Send the destination country, model numbers, quantity, target date, required functions, colour mix, branding needs and preferred trade term.
Should I compare EXW or FOB prices?
Use the same Incoterm for every supplier comparison. FOB can make export-side charges easier to compare, while EXW may be useful when your forwarder handles origin services.
How is freight calculated?
Freight depends on carton volume, total quantity, route, destination, season and delivery term. It should be calculated separately from the indicative factory price.
